#eresturismo: The 11th Benidorm Tourism Conference analyses the challenges of the sector in the digital era.
The Valencian Business Association (AVE), the Hotel and Tourism Business Association of the Valencian Community (AEFA), the Association for the Progress of Management (APD), the Alicante Chamber of Commerce, the Valencian Business Confederation (CEV Alicante), EDEM Business School and HOSBEC Valencian Community gathered a few days ago more than 200 professionals at the 11th Benidorm Tourism Conference, held at the Terra Mitica Convention Centre under the slogan #eresturismo.
This conference, which has been held since 2014, aims to analyse the challenges and trends in the tourism sector, as well as highlighting its importance for the generation of employment and wealth in the Valencian Community, focusing on the challenges facing the sector in the digital era, such as training, attracting and retaining talent, competition with new tourism business models and the robotisation of the industry.
Isidro Fernández, president of AVE and HOSBEC, stressed the importance of collaboration between all the agents involved in the tourism sector to face these challenges. ‘Tourism is a key sector for the Valencian and Spanish economy, and we must work together to maintain its competitiveness and sustainability,’ said Fernández.
Various experts took part in the conference, among them:
- José Manuel Barat, Director General of Tourism of the Valencian Community: who presented the latest figures for the tourism sector in the region.
- Manuel Pízarro, President of CEAV: who analysed the challenges and opportunities of the tourism sector in Spain.
- Efrén Cros, partner responsible for the tourism sector at KPMG: who spoke about robotisation and automation in the tourism industry.
- Isabel Touriño, co-founder of Destinia: who shared her experience in creating and managing an online tourism business.
Those attending the conference were very positive about the presentations and round tables, and agreed on the need for the tourism sector to adapt to the new times. ‘It is important for the tourism sector to go digital and to be able to offer customers personalised and unique experiences’, said one of the attendees.
The 11th Benidorm Tourism Conference has been a success in terms of participation and has contributed to generating a fruitful debate on the future of the tourism sector in the Valencian Community.
